Dog becomes ill and dies shortly after leaving Cape Girardeau dog park- Dogtown

Dogtown dog park in Cape Girardeau is a local hot spot for dogs and their people. It’s the only park around specifically designed for dogs and is fenced for off-leash play, exercise, and socialization. It’s a popular place. 

On Tuesday, Wrecker, a regular visitor to Dogtown, went for a routine run and play with his family. Nothing appeared off during the visit, but within minutes of leaving the park Wrecker became unresponsive and had to be rushed to his veterinarian.

Wrecker died on Wednesday.

Major Brand Recalls Pet Foods

Suspecting an issue with the pet’s food, the owner of the four pups sent the remainder of the food off to an independent lab. The lab found Pentobarbital in the samples; a drug commonly used to euthanize animals.

When ABC7 got wind of the story they went one step further and launched their own investigation. Over several months they had a lab test 62 samples from over 24 brand names of wet dog food. One brand repeatedly tested positive for Pentobarbital.

Scott City Animal Emergency Center closes due to staffing issues

The Animal Emergency Center in Scott City, Mo. has announce it’s closure, effective immediately. According to an announcement by AEC the closure is due to the inability to maintain staff at the facility. Unusual companions

There are some people in this world that cannot turn a blind eye to anyone or any creature in need.
One of those people is Amanda Snyder. She’s a nurse by trade and therefore a daily caregiver to people. She’s the type of pet owner who provides her dogs with their own bedroom, equipped with their own real beds with mattresses, complete with pillows and blankets. Malden makes decision to halt animals gassing for surrounding communities

Documents showing the number of animals coming in from Kennett for gassing had been released to the public Wednesday evening. Kennett Humane Department and their supporters were claiming the numbers were false. In order to clear the air, Donna Prenger agreed to obtain further documentation from the city offices on Friday to set the record straight. Those documents were published late Friday evening. -City administrator, Ted Bellers, had already made the decision earlier in the week that Malden would no longer offer gassing euthanasia services to surrounding communities.
