St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach halts operations effective immediately

The City of St. Louis was partnered with STLFCO, until now.

On Tuesday St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach announced that they were halting operations immediately. The city notified the organization that they would no longer be granting them any money. All allocations had been halted as of June 30. Furthermore, there would be no future allocations from the city’s budget for the TNR program.

Steve Svehla of Rough Road Rescue gets five years probation for felony stealing

On Aug. 11, 2017, Steve Svehla of Rough Road Rescue in Perry County Missouri, was jailed and charged with felony animal stealing. The charges stemmed from a drawn out legal battle over a dog Svehla had adopted out from his shelter several years ago. He pled not guilty.

Oct. 2, 2018 Svehla changed his plea to guilty of felony animal stealing. He was sentenced to a suspended imposition of sentence (SIS) and placed on probation for a period of five years under the supervision of the Board of Probation and Parole.

Dog becomes ill and dies shortly after leaving Cape Girardeau dog park- Dogtown

Dogtown dog park in Cape Girardeau is a local hot spot for dogs and their people. It’s the only park around specifically designed for dogs and is fenced for off-leash play, exercise, and socialization. It’s a popular place. 

On Tuesday, Wrecker, a regular visitor to Dogtown, went for a routine run and play with his family. Nothing appeared off during the visit, but within minutes of leaving the park Wrecker became unresponsive and had to be rushed to his veterinarian.

Wrecker died on Wednesday.

Hayti shelter reports suspicious number of animals missing in the area

President of the Caruthersville Humane Society, Karol Wilcox, frequently audits the books at her shelter and over the past several months she’s noticed a growing trend.

When she compared the number of dogs being reported lost or stolen, to the number of dogs found or returned, she saw a rapidly growing gap in numbers. That gap was in the small dog category.

Wilcox says it’s not just pets being reported to the shelter and local authorities. She frequently monitors lost and found pet pages on Facebook and says the number of small dogs she sees missing , just disappearing and never being seen again has increased incredibly.

Experts have argued for decades over the pros and cons of an egg rich diet. But after all the roughing around science has determined that this age old staple is indeed good for all of us; in moderation of course.
