Local animal shelter holds shoe drive
Don’t throw out those old shoes!
Have a pair or two of shoes in your closet gathering dust? Maybe a pair you bought that didn’t look or fit quite right? A pair of lightly used running shoes that have taken a back seat to the latest style? Perhaps a pair of boots you just never found the right place to wear?
Don’t throw them out and stop allowing them to clutter up your space. Donate them to support the Caruthersville Humane Society’s 2018 Shoe Drive. The shelter is collecting new and/or lightly used shoes.
Your donations can be dropped off at the following locations.
From now until Dec. 2, In Hayti- The Caruthersville Humane Society, 204 S 4th St., in Caruthersville, The Daniel Cornacchione Sr Law Office, 324 Ward Ave.
Nov. 3 only, by 3:00 p.m., in Cape Girardeau- Petco, 266 Siemers Dr.
The shelter hopes to collect 5000 pairs of shoes this year. 2500 pairs will earn the shelter a $1000.00 grant or 5000 pairs will earn them $2000.00.
Karol Wilcox, president of the organization, feels that 5000 pairs is an attainable goal.
“We have great supporters and everyone is working together to reach these numbers with us,” said Wilcox. “Last year we were able to reach our goal and I have every confidence we can do it again.”
By donating a single pair of shoes you are, 1) helping to raise much needed funding for your local animal shelter, 2) people less fortunate will have access to affordable shoes, 3) micro-entrepreneurs are employed and able to care for their families through your donation, and 4) you get that much-needed space in your closet.’
Wilcox wanted to add, “If you have 20 or more pairs of shoes to donate we will pick them at your door within a 100 mile radius of Hayti, Mo. Just give us a call to arrange for pick up.”
So far the shelter has collected 500 pairs of shoes.
